What can I do as a friend or a parent
If you suspect that a friend, your child or a relative is suffering from an eating disorder the following tips may be helpful:
Learn about eating disorders. Read articles, books and find information on the internet.
Understand that being thin does not mean beauty and health.
Be honest with the person, you are concerned about, about their eating habits.
Share your concerns and interest in it. Be warm, direct and non-judgmental. It is much better to say calmly and honestly: “I am worried about your weight” than critically: “look how you have become…».
Talk to an expert. Don’t let yourself see your beloved one as just an eating problem. All people have abilities and virtues. Highlight them! They need it much more than any of us.
